Cultural Leadership
Cultural leadership at Mayfield West Demonstration School is a way for students, staff, and community to connect with some of the people, stories, and ways of working that connect us with the oldest continuous living cultures in the world.
Junior Aboriginal Education Consultative Group
We are connected with Callaghan Local Aboriginal Education Consultative Group (AECG), led by President Dan Collins, Secretary Sarah Garnsey, Vice President Karen Rubie, and Treasurer Emmalee Charles. Staff regularly attend these meetings and we welcome the attendance of our parents and students. There are both full and associate members.
Our Junior Aboriginal Education Consultative Group (AECG) was formed under the guidance of our Local AECG, Callaghan LAECG. This group provides us with the opportunity to effectively consult with students and to embed their voices into our planning. The young Aboriginal and Torres Strait leaders who form the Junior AECG executive committee lead meetings, host school assemblies, and provide support to their peers.
Community Support
We are honoured to have connections with cultural leaders from across our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community. We have a number of very talented Aboriginal staff who support our students and share knowledge.
This leadership always starts with our staff, students, and families. Their stories, drive to learn and share culture, and desire to create a supportive place for all, are the cornerstones of what we do. We are grateful for their incredible efforts.
We are very fortunate to have knowledge holders from a wider circle that form a support network for our school.
We thank Uncle Doug and Aunty Selina Archbald for their hard work and guidance as we worked with them to create our possum skin cloak, to mark our school centenary. Their ongoing support is invaluable.
